I haven’t talked to y’all in a week.
I know, I’m a bad girl.
Since things have been a little wild (and by wild, I mean busy, and by busy I mean like really busy, y’all) around here, I’mma list stuffs out. Also, I LOVE making lists:
This past Saturday was the mister’s birthday. I have been wanting to throw a nerd/geek themed party for a while, but I wasn’t sure anyone would be into it so I was nervous about bringing up the idea to the mister.
DUDE, I was wrong.
Since you weren’t able to spend Thanksgiving with me (you poor thing, you!) I decided to share my holiday with you. In the form of a slideshow.
I’m positive you can barely contain yourself.
I’ve always been told to listen to my elders. Well, first off, they never had to figure out Twitter® or how to keep the youth from sexting so I’m starting to wonder whether or not their sage advice about things n’ stuff is really a complete anthology.*
Can you even imagine this dude trying to explain STDs to kids?
He’d be all like, “Sex, you must not,” and, “The Clap, you will get,” and tweens would be all like, rolling their eyes and saying, “Whatevs, old furry hobbit man.”
Ok, well, that’s a stupid title and it put that stupid “Taking Care Of Business” song in my head. Sorry if the title did that to you, too. However, if it made you think I had suddenly joined the mob and was going to make someone an “offer they can’t refuse,” well, then that’s pretty awesome. I mean, it makes no sense, but still… that’s pretty rad.
I could be that guy. Right?
A couple of months ago I made the mistake of making this for a party:
I say mistake because, while I guess it’s cool looking, it now means I have a 3′ x 5′ piece of “decoration” sitting my house. Well, actually, I snuck into a friend’s house and left it there. Really. That’s how tired I was of looking at this thing.
It’s ok, he’s on vacation. Shh, don’t tell!
For my mom’s 65th birthday I threw her a surprise party.
Um, sorry I just told everyone how old you are, Mama. Love you!
Soo anywhatsit, I wanted to throw a party that I thought would be perfect for my mom: a small gathering with just her children (and their spouses whom she considers children) and grandchildren, pretty colors and flowers, and her all-time favorite game, Scrabble.
You say it like that’s an awesome thing.
Which is good ’cause it is.
I took last week off to enjoy the 4th of July.
In that time I celebrated my niece’s birthday, the nation’s birthday, and the birthday of my first sale!
Ok, that wording was stupid.
But I was excited so you’ll just have to forgive me. Or stop reading this blog…

Here’s what I sold:
This past weekend seeherknit and I hosted a baby shower for our friend, Amanda.
It was a book themed shower held at an Italianate-style villa turned art museum, called Laguna Gloria. Specifically, we were in a large room called the Solarium. It was originally an open, second floor porch but later had been closed in and fitted with wall to wall windows.
What I love about the Solarium is the feel of the room – it’s very 1920s with black and white tile floors, light green brick walls, and interesting light fixtures. It just has an out of time feel and I thought it would be perfect for the shower.
As I’ve shared previously, I like to make desserts for my friends’ birthdays and I usually go overboard and end up making really crazy shit.
As a result, I am told fairly often that I should open a bakery, or go into a baking business, or rob banks and bookstores with baked goods instead of guns or whatever.
I should clarify that I do find this very flattering and I think it’s amazing that so many people seem to believe in my ability.
However, that doesn’t stop them from being WRONG.
